Hiatus over - lots of coding
After 10 months of doing many other things, such as Random Acts of Elevator Music, the OSL project is back into gear with some major developments occuring within the next month.
Firstly, the Acceleration Block 2.0 has been bug fixed, seems that there was a wrong operator within the code in several places, its available from the download section. Its the same version number mainly because nothing new has been added yet, later versions will have a smoother gate function as well as a clock function so that the time parameter can be created and controlled within the block.
A Collision Engine block has been coded that takes two objects of a determined size, mass and velocity to generate an impulse value and is being tested but will be several weeks away from beta release.
The OpenCV library has finally been accessed from within a created block, the delay was caused by the compiler not linking to some of the libraries. A rudimentary Drawing block has been coded and tested where a circle with controllable parameters (size, colour, etc) is placed over an inputted image and can be controlled along its x and y axis. Functions to be added to this block include the ability to select either a circle, rectangle or a polygon. The polygon, cvPolyLine, will allow more complex shapes to be overlayed with the aim being to get a human silhouette achievable for colour and video masking effects of a performer. This block will be beta released within the next few weeks.
There are several new EyesWeb 4.0.1 patches that are being used with the new blocks that should be ready for release in a couple of weeks. They are FloatFilmProjected 3.5, GrabDrawing 2.5 and ObjectCollision 2.0; the release schedule is in the order they are written. Eyw 4.0.1 will be used until a fix or work-around can be found for the problem that Eyw 4.0.2 has with not registering the Legacy blocks (although that might be a deliberate action). If this cannot be resolved then Eyw 4.0.1 will continue to be used for prototyping.
An offshoot project being researched is a Delphi wrapper for eyesweb block creation, just for those that don't dig the old MSvisual C++. This should be available here in a few weeks too.
The months of November and December are being devoted to coding the blocks necessary to provide a "sandbox" for the creation of a showreel and/or theatrical production to serve as a demonstration penciled in for January 2007 but more on that later.
