Theme: Sudan

Our current theme has been Indigenous Australians and after a very educational month, we will be moving on to a new theme - Sudan! This will be a very interesting topic for both student SAILors and tutor SAILors and hopefully, you’ll all learn something from each other - the fact and figures from the tutors and the real life experiences from the students!

Some interesting questions to think about: how many living languages are there in Sudan? What are the colours of the Sudanese flag and what do they symbolise? Is Sudan the largest country in Africa? What is a salatet za bady bil ajur? How is life different in Australia to life in Sudan?

Dandy United 2008
It’s coming up to that time again, where we unite Dandenong Robinson and Dandenong Langhorne to become Dandy United for the day! This time, the venue will be at our campus so on Saturday 12th April, prepare yourself an exciting reunion. Make sure you’re on your best behaviour, be good hosts and show the Langhornians a great time at Robinson!

Tennis Xtend
We have been very lucky to receive professional tennis coaching from Valoja Illangasinghe of our local Dandenong Tennis Club. Our Xtend SAILors have been working on their forehand, backhand and there will be plenty of game, set and match this week!

SAILing Out & About
Our SAILors have been very lucky and we have secured tickets to SAIL About to the footy (Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda), comedy show (Trent McCarthy is Turning Sudanese) and festivals (Sudanese Festival at the Immigration Museum). What a wonderful range of excursions for the holidays!

A special note: A few extremely lucky SAILors received a private tour from the Victorian Governor, Professor David de Kretser, AO, of his house during the summer break. We extend a big thank you to him and Mrs de Kretser for giving up their time and giving us the honour of this opportunity.

SAIL Away to the Lord Somers Camp
As you may already know, the upcoming and highly anticipated Lord Somers camp is coming up on the Anzac Day long weekend for secondary student SAILors. The forms are in and a lucky few will be selected from each of the 7 SAIL campuses to attend so get ready for an unforgettable weekend of fun and dance! Tutors, we will let you know well ahead of time if your student will be away.

Farewell Em

We wish to extend a huge thank you to our founding coordinator Emily, who is stepping back from SAIL to pursue a high-powered teaching career. Emily was the first coordinator of the SAIL Robinson campus and her friendliness and amazing organizational skills will be greatly missed.
