WholeSAIL News SAIL’s 7th Birthday Party SAIL turns 7 on Saturday 23 August and all six Melbourne campuses are getting together to celebrate seven years of SAILing. The celebrations will include a celebratory concert, a cake and a very big photo! The celebrations will take place at Maribyrnong College, located next to Highpoint Shopping centre, from 11:30am until 1:15pm. Thank you for the part you have played in SAIL's seven years, we hope you are able to join us to celebrate. 3rd Annual SAIL Formal The much-anticipated SAIL formal is fast approaching! All students aged thirteen and above and volunteers are invited to this night of nights. The event will take place between 8pm-11pm on Saturday 6th of September. More details soon! River Nile Tutors Wanted There is a need for tutors for VCE students in English, Maths and chemistry. The students are Sudanese. The need will be to prepare them for the exams in October. The venue is The River Nile Learning Centre at 30a Pickett Street, Footscray (behind the Bluestone Hall) on Monday nights from 6-8pm. For more information contact Don Talbot on 0418 967 829 . Community Talks and Seniors On 12 July, Braybrook hosted a talk on driving matters for Senior SAIL students. Unfortunately, attendance was poor, so we are seeking to drum up interest in the next upcoming community talk on September 27 and in the Senior program generally. In order to do this, we are calling on drivers to help us by reminding parents of SAILors that they are always welcome to the SAIL Senior program and to particularly encourage them to attend SAIL for the Community Talks, which are very beneficial for parents. If you know of any Senior student that may be interested in coming to SAIL, please let a coordinator know. Punctuality at SAIL You may have noticed that SAIL starting time at Braybrook seems to be dragging out to 11am as opposed to 10:30am. In order to maximise tutoring time, please do everything you can to arrive at SAIL by 10:20am to start tutoring at 10:30am. If you are having difficulties with getting yourself and the SAILors you pick up there on time, please come and speak with us. If you’ve noticed that your student is often late, feel free to bring that up with us also! Xtend Update July has seen Braybrook students demonstrate their star-quality and acting ability in a series of workshops run by former SAIL student Ezeldine. The students have been hard at work preparing for a brilliant performance at the SAIL Birthday next week. A HUGE thank you to Akemi, Jane, Fritz and other tutors for their support during Xtend. Xtend runs at Braybrook from 12:30-1:30pm on a Saturday. A small group of Braybrook SAILors are joined by a small group of Maidstone SAILors for a range of activities. We would like to extend an Xtend invitation to all tutors who are keen to participate. It is a fantastic and fun way of brushing up on your skills and having a ball with SAIL students. Library News At the moment, Braybrook is short of a librarian. So we ask that tutors take particular care in ensuring that games and worksheets used by your students are put away properly at the end of every session. We are greatly appreciative of the help many tutors offer to help tidy this area at the end of SAIL. Also, Braybrook is also lucky to have a large range of worksheets and activities on offer. If you ever feel like you are running low on ideas or activities, please let Gemma, Ash or Sam, and we can point you in the direction of our huge collection of ideas and resources. Furthermore, there is a CD jam-packed with SAIL worksheets and ideas, available for loan to tutors. If you are interested, please see a coordinator. Cleaning A huge thank you to all the tutors who have for stayed back to assist with cleaning SAIL on Saturday. We sincerely appreciate you adding the extra time to your day at SAIL. It allows us to leave campus hours earlier in the comfort of knowing that the venue is in as good shape (and often better) as it was at the start of the day! Total Trivia How many medals did Thank you for SAILing the 7 seas. Smooth SAILing, Gemma, Sam, Ashanti, Nik and Cara.
